Robert Werner is managing partner at HIC CONSULTING and co-founder of Hamburg Institut. An experienced expert in the German and European energy sector, he has been advising on issues relating to the energy transition, regulation and decarbonisation for more than 25 years. His main areas of focus are management and policy consultancy, as well as the development of decarbonisation strategies for industrial and commercial enterprises, investors and local authorities. In addition, he supports companies in analysing climate risks and further developing their business models, and devises concepts and methods for verifying compliance in energy and carbon markets.

After studying geography (specialising in economic geography) and business administration, he held positions in academia and management consultancy. In 2001, he moved into the energy sector to successfully build up a nationwide energy supplier as a board member in the newly liberalised electricity market. Robert Werner gained international experience, among other things, as co-founder and CEO of the German-US start-up Gravity Storage, which is developing a new technology for very large-scale electricity storage.

Robert Werner has in-depth knowledge of national and European energy policy and regularly discusses developments in this field at panel discussions and specialist events. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the dena Market Initiative and of the Council of the Cooperative Auditing Association for Services, Real Estate and Trade e. V.
